Posting on different pages in WordPress

Besides the blog home page with blog posts in reverse chronological order, WordPress allows users to create unlimited number of separate pages and to maintain static content on these pages. The blog posts are by default only displayed on the blog home page. However, sometimes it is desired to display blog posts also on pages other than the blog home page. Different pages should contain different blog posts and the blog admin needs be in full control of assigning posts po pages. Here is how to set it up, no programming skills required.

Set Chrome Omnibar search engine language to English

Chrome’s Omnibar offers a simple integration with Google search engine. Just type the search phrase to the Omnibar and select “Google search” in the drop-down menu to see the search hit-list in Google. A problem with this feature occurs when you are living outside the US yet you still prefer to see the results returned by google.com as opposed to results returned by your country local Google site.

Good life (2010 mixtape)

A mix tape to celebrate 2010 as a good year for music. Eclectic mix of mostly indie and electronic stuff. Begins friendly and innocently, turns weird, ends with a merciless beat. I hereby declare that I own all the CDs used in making this mix. If this is still considered a copyright infringement, please let me know and I will remove this mix from the interwebs.

A very special Christmas

Every year since I remember, with exception of the year when I served in the army, I celebrated Christmas the same way – with my mother and brother, in Prešov, the Eastern Slovakian town where I was born and where my family lives. This small tradition of celebrating Christmas together became especially precious ever since I moved and settled down in the Netherlands a decade ago. Those moments of being together as a family are very precious to me. This year’s holiday season was supposed to be no different. Just a few hours before the departure of our flight eastwards however everything changed.

Kevin Kelly photo featured by Calcalist Magazine

Kevin-Kelly-by-Ivo-Kendra-TEDx-Amsterdam-2009

Shortly after my Kevin Kelly photograph was published on TEDxAmsterdam website, I was contacted by people from Calcalist Magazine, a business magazine owned by Israeli media group Yedioth Ahronoth. These guys wrote an article about Mr. Kelly and I was honored that they wanted to publish the photograph with it. Nice folks from Calcalist Magazine fully adhered to the license under which the photo was published and they also send me a copy of the magazine. Much appreciated!

Autolux

Autolux belongs to the category of those spontaneous musical discoveries for me. Although they have been around for a while, I did not know about them until recently (thanks @ibzero for the tip).

The Los Angeles trio is currently touring Europe and they performed live in Amsterdam, at Paradiso on December 4, supported by Tamaryn.

You must just love those concerts at Kleine zaal. A small, intimate venue allows for direct flow of energies and moods between the band and the crowd. Autolux filled the space with the otherworldly shoegaze noise underlined with some spectacular drumming (Carla Azar!), the audience responded with cheers, demanding more. During the quiet passages the crowds even shut up and listened quietly, something that you do not often experience in this city.

Some more photos of Autolux at Paradiso on my Flickr.

More on Autolux on last.fm or on Wikipedia.

Accessing the other Time Machine backups

In our household there are multiple Macs using one single Time Capsule for Time Machine backups. Some of those Macs we do not even use anymore yet their Time Machine backups are still stored on that central Time Capsule. This is all fun and games until you find out that you need to restore data from the backup of a Mac you do not anymore have.

Mac mini fan remains at high speed

If you opened your Mac mini for instance to upgrade the memory or hard disk, it may happen that the ventilator will run at full speed after you power up the computer back, regardless of whether you are running any CPU-intensive task or not. This problem might remain present even if your computer is in the sleep mode. The fix to this problem is simple.
